About Prompt.Directory
When I started as a prompt engineer at OpenAI in 2020, prompting was very new and a lot different than what it is today – just a few years later. Prompt engineering used to require tricks like giving the AI the start of a blog post so it understood it was writing an article or telling it to answer factually (because it otherwise might think it’s emulating someone who has the wrong answers.)
This kind of prompting required a lot more role-playing. Now we can talk more directly to AI (this is because we began to train systems like ChatGPT on lots of examples of people talking back and forth with an AI - helping it understand its role and goals.)
While prompting has become easier, it’s still helpful to see what’s possible. I created Prompt.Directory to help people learn how to use AI tools like ChatGPT to do interesting and useful tasks. The goal of these prompts is to get you thinking about how you can use AI and see the many different possibilities.
